Thursday was a magical and historic day… Ketanji Brown Jackson was sworn in as the 116th justice of the Supreme Court making history as the first Black woman to serve on the highest court of the nation.
She replaced retiring former Justice Stephen Breyer to become the third black person, after Thurgood Marshall & Clarence Thomas, and the sixth woman to serve on the Supreme Court.
Justice Jackson took her oath saying, “With a full heart, I accept the solemn responsibility of supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States and administering justice without fear or favor, so help me God. I am truly grateful to be part of the promise of our great Nation.”
Washington DC was full of magic this week… yesterday, the White House announced the honorees who will receive the nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
President Biden will present the awards next week after the holiday weekend to 17 people, including Oscar and Tony-award winning actor Denzel Washington, gymnast Simone Biles and the first person in the nation to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, New York City nurse and advocate Sandra Lindsey.
Remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
