Community Connect, hooks you up and helps you out with news about resources you can use… and there’s an amazing new place that the young people in your life who love sports can go now!
The new North Austin Community Center opened last week on the west side at Moffat and Laramie (1841 North Laramie Avenue). It’s an over 150 thousand square foot, 10 acre youth sports complex that includes Chicago’s largest turf field, 15 fields and courts for year-round camps, leagues and tournaments for all kinds of sports, plus an eSports lab.
It’s all designed to give children in communities without programs for youth sports and development the opportunity to sign up to play for free, get elite training and be part of leagues there.
The Chicago Fire Foundation, which helped fund the building, is supporting 20 hours of free community programming every week from non-profits By the Hand Club for Kids and Grace & Peace Revive Center. Former Cub Jason Heyward will also host his baseball academy at the complex and non-profit Intentional Sports has the fields reserved for free programs weeknights from 3 to 7 pm.
Our community moves forward best when we get the help we need and give the help we can!
