This is Community Connect, where we hook you up and help you out with resources you can use… this week it’s all about the peace. Memorial Day was the official start of summer and the long holiday weekend brought an uptick in shootings that happen when the weather gets warmer.
Today is the 10th Annual Race Against Gun Violence, starting at 10 am in Grant Park’s Upper Hutchinson Field. It supports keeping Chicago free from the fear of gun violence and 100% of contributions go directly to nonprofit organizations dedicated to ending gun violence.
Also check out Peace Fest: One Love Edition… the free block party is from 2-7pm today at the Peace Campus at 64th & Honore, organized by We Grow Chicago community-based coalition including Imagine Englewood if, Healthy Hood, Think Outside Da Block and Moms Demand Action. They’ve got activities, food, music, resources, plus shoe and clothing giveaways! The event is free and you can register here.
& Next Saturday, June 10th, I Am A Gentleman, Inc. invites parents to register their sons for the 2023 Brilliance and Excellence March. Their goal is to gather 1,000 black and brown boys to stand against violence in Chicago.
