Black People Magic: History Makers Recap from the Emmys This Week

There was SO much Black People Magic at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday… it was the first time the show was produced by an all-Black team!

Anthony Anderson hosted the evening’s festivities – with some help from his mama to keep award acceptance speeches on time, a strategy that worked really well with the show ending a couple of minutes early for a change!

Ayo Edebiri and Quinta Brunson won the first Emmy awards of the night back-to-back, making history as the only Black women to ever win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy in the same year. And Quinta’s win marks the first win for a Black woman in that category in over 40 years since Isabel Sanford won for The Jeffersons in 1981.

Niecy Nash-Betts got her Emmy and RuPaul, Ali Wong and Trevor Noah made history in their categories as well.

Plus, Jasmine Guy won her very first Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for her portrayal of Barbara Baldwin in “Chronicles of Jessica Wu.” She never won an Emmy for her iconic portrayal of “Whitley Gilbert” in the hit television sitcom “A Different World.”

& Remember to always celebrate your magic too!
