South Side businessman and philanthropist Dr. Willie Wilson is sharing his magical generosity with Chicagoland area residents again... bringing back his 20th gas giveaway next weekend. He has committed to giving away $200,000 in free gas and groceries.
He said he was moved to bring back his famous giveaway when he saw how the war in Iran was driving up gas prices, so he could “help my fellow citizens… (who) are still struggling with high food prices. I hope my efforts will help to ease the pain of rising gas and grocery costs.”
The gas giveaway is scheduled for next Saturday, April 4th starting at 7am with 31 participating gas stations across the city, suburbs, and Northwest Indiana. Gas will be given on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of $35 per recipient.
Then at 11am the same day, Seafood City Supermarket (5033 N. Elston, Chicago) will hand out $25 grocery coupons while supplies last. And over the coming weeks, Dr. Wilson said he will distribute $25 grocery cards at a variety of churches. For details on those giveaways, check out his Facebook page.
Dr. Wilson is originally from Gilbert, Louisiana, where he left school after seventh grade and set out on his own at just 13, working in cotton and sugar cane fields for 20 cents an hour. He came to Chicago in 1965 and did everything from mopping floors to flipping burgers at McDonald’s, later going on to own and operate several of his own franchises. He has received honorary degrees from Mt. Carmel Theological Seminary and Chicago Baptist Institute International.
