We celebrate the Black People Magic of actress Nia Long, as she got her flowers in a big way this week.
The 55-year-old actress was honored for her three decade-long career with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday.
We first saw Nia on screen in the early 90s on The Fresh Prince and in John Singleton’s Boyz in the Hood… but she will always be loved and connected to Chicago through her first starring role in Love Jones and later in Soul Food. And recently, she eunirted with her Love Jones co-star Larenz Tate for Netflix’s upcoming Don't Ever Wonder, which she also executive produces.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce declared September 16th as Nia Long Day in Hollywood. Guest speakers included Snoop Dogg who wore a custom jacket featuring her face, and her past co-stars showed up to support, including Terrence Howard, Larenz Tate, Morris Chestnut, and Tiffany Haddish.
As she stood above her new star, Nia ended her reflection by claiming the person behind the résumé. She said, “She has never followed the crowd and would rather take the scenic route to success… She is me, Nia Talita Long.”
Nia also contributes her time as a motivational speaker to the Sterling Children’s Home in Barbados.
& Remember to always celebrate your magic, too!
