Commuters complain about the gateway to road rage: Tailgating

posted by Joe Soto -

It's one of the biggest commuter complaints. People following too closely when on the road.

Tailgating.  And not the kind before the Bears game.

The rule in Illinois is for drivers to leave two car lengths in front. It helps prevent rear end crashes, one of the most common on our roadways, and according to researchers, it will also improve travel times.

A 2017 study from MIT shows if drivers kept a fixed distance between one another – traffic flow would double the speed of what we usually sit in – saving time and money.

The study shows urban commuters spend 38 hours a year stuck in traffic to the tune of $820 of wasted gas per year.
