Columbus Day Parade Steps Off On State Street

The annual Columbus Day parade steps off at 1 p.m. in downtown Chicago. The parade will begin at State and Lake Streets, and proceed south to Van Buren. The 65-year-old parade honors Christopher Columbus, an Italian navigator and explorer who sailed across the Atlantic ocean looking to find a new route to India. More than 150 units of bands, floats and marchers will be participating in the parade and everyone is invited to attend.

Make sure you give your children a quick history lesson about Christopher Columbus while they are out of school today, and if you are able to, why not come downtown to see the parade? It feels like summer and traffic is light and what a great way to give your children a visual recap to your history lesson.
