The weather in Chicago over the next few days is going to be hot. The temps may soar into triple digits, and the humidity is expected to be high making it very uncomfortable for those who do not prefer hot weather (myself included). And just as there are warming centers in the winter, there are also cooling centers during the extreme heat. Following are some tips that will help you stay comfortable during the hot weather:

  1. Drink lots and lots of water! This will keep your body hydrated.
  2. Wear light clothing - light colors and light fabrics keep the body cooler.
  3. Find air conditioning.
  4. Stay away from doing activities that are strenuous or exert a lot of energy.
  5. Be careful and aware of any illness related to hot temperatures such as rash, headaches, dizziness, cramps, exhaustion, etc.
  6. Check on family members and neighbors, especially those with medical conditions, the elderly and children.
  7. NEVER leave people or pets in a car. NEVER - even if it's just for a matter of seconds. NEVER.
