Celebrate Juneteenth With Events Around Chicago

Juneteenth hits different this year.

With the racial climate in Chicago and around the country, many people are recognizing the holiday in America. What is Juneteenth? It is a day to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States.

For many years, however, there has been a push to make Juneteenth a federal holiday, but unfortunately that has yet to happen. In the wake of several unjustified deaths of black people, many more companies and organizations are allowing employees the day off, recognizing Juneteenth as an official paid holiday.
