American Democracy Prevails

Wow, this past week has been one of lows, anxiety, highs and ultimately victory!

The presidential election has become one of the most historic elections in American history on so many different levels. To name a few, President-elect Joe Biden has broken the record of the most votes ever for a presidential candidate, garnering more than 75 million.

Vice-president-elect Kamala Harris is the first woman, and a woman of color to become VP. I'm sure there will be more "firsts" as time goes on, but for now many young girls and women of all ages and races have been assured that no matter what the goal, it can be accomplished.

I am looking forward to what this new administration will do to take America to the next level. I don't want them to "get America back on track" because this country is far from perfect and on the brink of destruction. From racial injustice to poverty, homelessness, trafficking, violence, a health crisis and more, America needs to heal in more ways than one.

How proud I am of the millions of people who got on one accord and said, "enough is enough," stood in long lines to vote, in some cases received threats, were treated poorly and encouraged not to even come to a polling place. That's a shame, voter suppression in 2020.

But it's a new day, Americans are strong and resilient and now should realize that there truly is power in the people. Democracy prevails.
