First Black Contestant Wins National Spelling Bee

She's a 14-year-old 8th grader from Harvey, Louisiana and she is now the winner of the 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee. But that's not it. Zaila Avant-garde has become the FIRST black champion!

I'm very proud of this vivacious young lady who also enjoys basketball and hopes to play in the WNBA one day, and trust me she will. Not only does Zaila get the title of champion, but she also receives a $50 thousand dollar cash reward!
