It was good news hearing Chicago Pubic Schools and the Chicago Teachers Union have come to an agreement to get our students back in the classroom. As a former instructor I know the importance of education -- especially in our communities. I am also very aware of the spread of the virus so I respect that argument too.
But five days of no school for a few hundred-thousand children in our city? Not even remote learning, just nothing? Not acceptable. Please, let's keep the politics and egos and the "grown folk" issues out of these critical decisions that affect our youth and their right to a proper education.
Children need to be in a safe learning environment where they can get what they need socially, emotionally, mentally and physically. The fact that they were out of school and not in structured education mode is not a good look. It's good to know they will be returning to the classroom Wednesday.
