Inspired by learning math through a baking lesson and the two generations of ‘Laine’s before her, Rachel and her husband Jaryd run ‘Laine’s Bake Shop, an artisan baking company with a social mission.
Founded in 2013, ‘Laine’s exists to bring people together through authentic, good food as a way to catalyze urban revitalization starting with the south side of Chicago.
They accomplish this in 3 ways; through their Community Partner program, hiring from the hardest hit communities (geographically and by background), and sourcing from like minded suppliers. Today they sell their products online, through special order (via call or email), catering, and to retailers including Whole Foods Market, Starbucks, Lakeview Kitchen & Market, and Amazon Fresh.
Please review Laine’s Bakeshop Corporate Responsibility and Social Conscious stance below:
People. Planet. Profits. We believe in investing in our community, sourcing ingredients and packaging responsibly, hiring locally, and giving back to worthy causes. Our success comes from investing in our people, our local communities, and our planet. That’s true profit.
We take pride in being a family owned small business and we are equally proud to support other local and family/employee owned businesses, both as vendors and partners.
As we grow, we plan to continue hiring part of our workforce from the chronically unemployed community including those who were previously homeless, incarcerated, and others who may be looking for a second chance at a self-sustained life and career. We are partnering with Chicago organizations that help these individuals and provide them with job training and personal development programs.
Our top priority in baking is to create memorable treats and intriguing flavors. To achieve that goal we make each creation from scratch using the best quality ingredients we can get our hands on! We pride ourselves on not hiding artificial ingredients in your foods. We even have an entire line of all natural food colorings available by request.
