Hundreds of school kids treated to brand-new shoes

Hundreds of Chicago school kids went home Thursday with an extra skip in their step because of the new shoes on their feet. Every student at Dewey School of Excellence received a brand-new pair of shoes today.

The national non-profit group Shoes That Fit distributed the 400 plus pairs Thursday morning. Every box was marked with the student's name and correct size.

The shoes were paid for by Glendale Heights lighting company, Linea di Liara.

"If they are given the right opportunity to grow, play and thrive, they'll be able to be a light in their own community as well,” said Katherine Riley of Linea di Liara.  “So we get to spread a little of our light with these children here today."
