The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin would have been 77 years old today. It was just 7 months ago that the music icon was laid to rest, the country and world paying tribute to her awesome accomplishments. But although she is gone she will never ever be forgotten because she contributed to much to American music and culture.
With 18 Grammy awards and countless other industry accolades, Aretha Franklin was like no other. She was one of only a few singers to have that distinctive voice -- the moment she hit a note you knew it was her. Although she was born in Memphis, Tennessee, Ms. Franklin was a Detroit plant, which was her home for many years. It was announced at her funeral that Detroit's Chene Park would be renamed in honor of Aretha Franklin.
