What kind of America am I living in?
"O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave" are lyrics that used to give me chills when I heard them during the National Anthem, but now I am disheartened at the fact that ICE agents can knock on doors of illegal immigrants and send them away.
I realize crossing borders is illegal but the actual act of literally pulling someone out of their home and breaking up families seems to be quite inhumane. And to send immigrants to a place where the conditions are bad makes it even worse. What are we doing here? Where is the compassion? Where is the understanding that people are trying to better their lives and lives of generations to come?
I seriously hope that there is a change of heart as it relates to these nationwide immigration raids. We have one life to live and to be able to live it where there is freedom of speech and you don't have to constantly look over your shoulder is what everyone ultimately deserves. My thoughts are constantly with those who fear they will be deported and who will be possibly separated from their families.
And even with its issues I love my country and I am proud to be an American, but I can honestly say I am not proud of what is going on right now with these heartless directives. God have mercy on America.
