There is a place in my heart that will never heal because it keeps getting broken at the report of a shooting. I am blown away at the numbness some feel when it comes to mass shootings. This past weekend there were two of these horrific events that took place, one in Dayton, Ohio and the other in El Paso, Texas. Why does this keep happening in America is always the biggest question but nobody seems to be able to get to the bottom of these senseless killings.
The scary part is that these killings can happen to anyone at anytime. There is no specific rhyme or reason to it, it just happens. Shootings can take place in an affluent neighborhood, a place of worship, a school, the workplace -- anywhere.
What really hurts is that a number of people are frequently killed in the city I call home. Every weekend several people lose their lives because of gun violence in Chicago. That should be considered a mass shooting too. This act of violence is unfortunately becoming the norm, but this is not normal. It's savage. Nearly 50 people shot and 6 of them killed in a single weekend? In less than 48 hours? PLEASE America, do something!
Mental illness can no longer be blamed for everything. Some people just hate and the hate they give is the result of something that they are being taught to believe.
