High Waves In Lake Michigan Are Dangerous For Swimming

For the past week or so the wave currents on Lake Michigan have been pretty high and strong. Officials are warning of the dangerous waves and beach goers really need to heed that warning.

On Thursday a man died at 31st Beach after saving an 11-year-old girl who was caught up by the currents on the lake. Unfortunately lifeguards were able to save her, but not him. The current was so strong and waves so high witnesses said once his head went under the water, he never came back up.

The Lake Michigan Beach Hazard remains in effect because of the rip currents and high waves, and red flags are being waved as caution. Even the most experienced swimmer should probably not go swimming until the hazard has been lifted.
