India.Arie gave an audience of mostly women a rousing performance of her hit single "Steady Love." The performance was at BET's Annual 'Black Girls Rock!' celebration, where women in different fields such as the arts, music, entertainment, medicine and other visionary aspects are honored for their achievements.
Hosted by actor Niecy Nash, the show included a who's who of African-American and women of color who are doing big things. Angela Bassett received the Icon Award and there was a performance by Chicago's own Common and Erykah Badu. Ciara picked up the Rock Star Award and several other women where honored as well, including singer H.E.R. who picked up the Young, Gifted and Black Award.
There was some controversy, however, as Pose star Angelica Ross called out the show for not including trans women in the awards show.
