The Willis Tower. Buckingham Fountain, the former John Hancock Building. The Michael Jordan statue. These are just some of the many icons that the city of Chicago has.
And one of the most popular icons recognized by Chicagoans is the historic water tower located downtown on Michigan Avenue, which turns 150! A big, day-long neighborhood festival celebrating the 150th anniversary takes place Saturday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The City of Chicago has partnered with several organizations to present family activities, food trucks, lectures, tours, performances and much more all within walking distance of the water tower. The water tower was built in 1869 by architect William W. Boyington and is one of the only buildings that survived the Great Chicago Fire.
