After being out of school for 11 school days, our Chicago Public School students headed back to the classroom Friday. A handful of issues were brought to the table, points were made. Negotiations ensued, more issues were presented, there was compromise and more negotiations took place. Even more demands were made, and the mayor said this is what it is and these kids need to be back in school tomorrow. Tomorrow, meaning Friday, which is today. And so it is.
Once again I wholeheartedly believe in fighting for what you believe is right and although all of the demands were not met, it was a good lesson in knowing that "united we stand and divided we fall." Solidarity is nothing to be played with when you know what you are doing is for the greater good. And when it comes to negotiations and making change, there are not many priorities that I could put in front of children and their education.
Ring the bell, class is back in session.
