Chicago Resident Diagnosed With Coronavirus Is Hospitalized

We have been seeing news reports of the coronavirus in recent days and Friday it was reported that a Chicago resident in her 60s has been diagnosed with the virus.

What is a coronavirus? It's a kind of common virus that causes an infection in your nose, sinuses or upper throat. Most coronaviruses are not dangerous, however, some of the viruses can be serious. It usually originates in animals and can be spread from animal to animal and also transmitted from animals to humans. This recent coronavirus originated in Wuhan China where more than 830 people have been infected and 26 have died.

The symptons of coronavirus include coughing, fever, breathing difficulties and in severe cases organ failure. The virus also causes pneumonia which likely can prove fatal in children and the elderly.

The Chicago woman who has coronavirus traveled to China in December and returned to Chicago on Jan. 13 when she fell ill. She is doing well and is in stable condition at an area hospital that has infection control capabilities.
