What happened to people saying 'thank you' when you give them the right-of-way in traffic? I am constantly finding myself letting people in, or merging over to let someone get by or just being pleasant in traffic and people just don't seem to appreciate it. Why is that?
Yesterday I was driving and came to a red light. There was a young dude in a really nice tricked out jeep blasting his music and having a good time with the windows down and such during the height of rush hour traffic. He was apparently sitting there waiting to merge into traffic otherwise he would be sitting there waiting a long time. So who let's him in? Me! Did I have to? No, absolutely not.
He looked at me to acknowledge that I was going to let him through and I gave him that look of "yeah, go ahead but make it quick because there is a lot of traffic out here!" Do you think this guy even said thank you or waved or anything? Nope, not at all. I do this all the time and nobody ever seems to acknowledge it, honk their horn or recognize that I just saved them a big traffic headache. Just know nobody is obligated to let you in moving traffic, so at least give a wave of thanks or something the next time somebody lets you in ... geeeeeez!
