Grammy award-winning musician, singer and songwriter Bill Withers has died. According to a family statement he died at his home in Los Angeles on Monday. He died from heart complications at the age of 81.
I remember my grandma used to always play Bill Withers and there was something distinct about not only his voice, but the style of music he would sing. It was upbeat, positive and made you want to turn the volume up. It was also very inspirational, and had a clear message.
"Lovely Day" is one of my favorite songs by Mr. Withers, just the lyrics alone will put a smile on your face. It is catchy and includes all of the aforementioned adjectives. Great song. Great artist, and his contribution to American music will be appreciated for decades to come.
