She was a founding member of the 1970s group The Pointer Sisters. Bonnie Pointer, 69, has passed away.
The Grammy award-winning group made up of real sisters had hits like, "I'm So Excited," "Fire," "Jump" and "Betcha Got A Chick On The Side." Their career spanned from the 1970s to the present, with much of their success from hits in the 70s and 80s.
Many of their songs were considered party anthems and could be heard at sporting events and large festivals. Their music was a mix of several genres including pop, rock, R&B, country, soul, dance and disco.
Hearing songs by the Pointer Sisters brings me back to my childhood when my sisters and I would get dressed up and pretend we were them. I can't recall which sister I was but I do remember being in the background, and chiming in on the ad libs and sang lead from time to time. Maybe I was Bonnie I don't know. But it doesn't matter. We were young girls living a dream, pretending to be famous singers and it was pretty cool to see back then that they looked just like us.
