The Aunt Jemima Brand Will Get New Name, Image

Most everybody who has enjoyed pancakes, waffles or French toast most likely poured some Aunt Jemima syrup on their breakfast favorites. But after more than 130 years, the brand will get a complete overhaul, changing both its name and logo.

According to a statement from Quaker Oats the company acknowledges that "Aunt Jemima's origins are based on a racial stereotype." Clearly we can see that with the depiction of a black woman dressed as a minstrel character on the syrup bottle and pancake mix boxes.

New packaging for the brand is expected to be revealed this fall and a new name for the food will be announced hopefully later this year.

Progress.
