Regal Cinemas Will Close Theaters Nationwide on Thursday

With COVID-19 comes another closure, this time some movie theaters are going dark. Regal Cinemas will close all 536 of its theaters nationwide, including nine in the Chicago area.

The move comes after great financial losses because movie-goers aren't going to the movies anymore. I mean, you can only watch "Raiders of the Lost Ark" so many times. Many theaters that are will open can only have a certain amount of patrons and they have to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

In the case of Regal Cinemas, the money just isn't there to continue to operate the theaters. The CEO of Classic Cinemas said the theaters just couldn't survive by showing older movies over and over again. There is no growth because there are no new movies.

The theaters are scheduled to close Thursday, affecting 40-thousand employees.
