CPS Students Return To The Classroom But Not Without Controversy

Monday pre-kindergarten and students in cluster programs returned to the classroom for the first time in 10 months. While some students loved it, there is still controversy surrounding returning to the classroom in the middle of a pandemic.

CPS CEO Janice Jackson and Mayor Lightfoot have had many press conferences assuring parents and teachers that returning to school would be okay because many safety measures have been implemented. But some parents and teachers are not hearing it. They feel that returning to school buildings is dangerous and not a smart idea as coronavirus cases are skyrocketing across the country.

As many as 145 teachers were locked out of remote learning because they did not report to the classroom as instructed. Jackson also said that those teachers who do not show up face discipline, and may even be fired.
