Martin Luther King Jr. Day became a federal holiday in 1983 and in 1994 Congress designated the holiday as a national day of service. There are many ways that you can celebrate Dr. King by volunteering, learning more about him and being of service in remembrance of his legacy:

Chicago History Museum will be holding virtual events commemorating Dr. King’s work in Chicago. Yes, Dr. King once lived right here in Chi-City!
Cook County Forest Preserves is welcoming volunteers to help pick up litter.
DuSable Museum is streaming events on their website in honor of Dr. King.
Institute for Nonviolence Chicago will have online non-violence training.
