Carjackings: State of Emergency In Chicago

What is really going on with all of the carjackings in Chicago? There have been so many in the past several weeks that this is really cause for concern. According to the Chicago Police Department, just this year there have been more than 150 reported carjackings - about four times as many as last year.

There are reports that the carjackers are young, sometimes as young as 12 years old and are usually in their teens or early 20s. Most of the vehicular hijackings are happening at gas stations and the perpetrators usually target fast cars like Dodge Chargers and certain SUV models, but they are brazen in taking any type of car.

Some community groups and security services are now patrolling a handful of gas stations throughout Chicagoland, and are hoping to expand their presence in the coming weeks. Always be cautious and aware of your surroundings because these carjackings are happening at different times of the day - yes, even in broad daylight and in areas you may not even think they would happen.
