Juneteenth is this weekend and there will be several events throughout Chicagoland celebrating the day, which commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States.
From special exhibits to concerts and community pop ups, there will be plenty to do to celebrate and reflect on what the day is really all about. Illinois recognizes Juneteenth as a state holiday, meaning it's a paid day off for all state employees and a school holiday.
