Keke Palmer is opening up about financially providing for her family as a child star.

During the latest episode of the "Club Shay Shay" podcast, Palmer teared up as she discussed being the breadwinner for her family at a young age. Palmer's career in Hollywood skyrocketed after her 2004 big-screen appearance in Barbershop 2: Back in Business. She went on to star in several films including Madea's Family Reunion, Akeelah and the Bee, and Jump In! before nabbing her own TV series, True Jackson VP.

"My parents at their best made $40,000 a year... I was making that a show," Palmer revealed on Shannon Sharpe's podcast.

When asked about how much access she had to her money, Palmer explained that her parents gave her and her sister an allowance.

The actress said she had no issue giving back to her family because "everybody sacrificed for me to be where I'm at."

"How I feel about it is what's mine is there's and what's there's is mine and I would do it again," Palmer said.

Palmer got emotional while discussing the pressure that was on her shoulders as the provider.

"I would do it again for my family," Palmer said.

"I could be sad but why... look at what I gained," she added.

During the podcast, Palmer again teared up while recalling a "hurtful" comment she made to her father about their financial situation.

"I'm the one making all the money," the former child star said she told her father.

She said her father's calm response has stuck with her to this day.

"There's a lot more that goes into leading a family than making some money," he responded.
