My Thoughts On The Jussie Smollet Sentencing

I feel indifferent about the Jussie Smollet sentencing because I see both sides, kinda. There have been reports about him still having the noose around his neck after allegedly being beat up, how he picked up a sandwich AFTER the alleged attack, evidence of the so-called abusers on camera buying the materials used in the alleged attack, etc. It just didn't add up, so those are just some reasons why I was a bit skeptical in believing the story.

On the other hand, I do think the sentence may have been a bit harsh with the jail time of 150 days. Probation would have been sufficient. It's bad enough he has to walk around with the title of convicted felon for the rest of his life. My thought is there were personal issues revolving around this case and prosecutors were out to "punish" other officials that were tied to it or spoke out on it in favor of Smollett. You know, an example had to be made about how you don't mess with certain departments.

Our judicial system needs a lot of work. There are people who murder who are on the streets, yet this man gets jail time? That just doesn't make any sense. But on the other hand, it would really be hurtful and a disgrace if this story was made up because there are far too many people who have in fact have been victims of racial and or hate crimes who have had no justice at all.
