This Weekend in Black History

Our Black History Month moment features what happened this weekend in black history…

On February 9th in 1995, Dr. Bernard Harris became the first African-American to walk in space.

And on February 11th in 1990, Nelson Mandela was released from prison after 27 years behind bars for his efforts to end apartheid… within 4 years, he was the first black president of South Africa.

I found these facts on BlackHistoryDaily.com… a great website for discovering what happened in black history on any day of the year.  It includes birthdays and notable moments from every discipline and walk of life.  It's an easy way to keep your children (and yourself) learning about our history all year 'round!

Happy Black History Month... keep celebrating you!
