What's Happening This Weekend (8/4/18)

Lollapalooza may be taking over the city this weekend, but there’s still other stuff going on…

Wakandacon is this weekend at the Hilton Chicago… it’s a celebration inspired by the movie Black Panther, but it’s about so much more… pop culture, gaming, tech, womanhood, politics and fabulous Blackness.  Many notables will be there… actresses Erika Alexander from Living Single and Cynda Williams from Mo’ Betta Blues, plus thought leaders from the worlds of tech, gaming, filmmaking and more.  Passes are $40 at the venue and you can find the schedule and more info here.

Get your house on with Ramonski Luv at Brookfield Zoo’s Summer Nights House Party today from 5pm to 9pm. House Music provided by Mickey Mixin’ Oliver and Scott Smokin’ Silz.  Info here!

Jazz fans, head to City Winery tomorrow night at 7 to check out Kevin Whalum… he’s the brother and collaborator of smooth jazz staple Kirk Whalum.  And you may also remember him from his time performing in Chicago with his group Fast Forward.  Tickets start at $15 and you can get them here.

If you’re trying to soak up the most of summer, catch a couple of movies outdoors for free this week…

  • Water Flicks at Navy Pier on Monday features the animated film “Frozen” at the Lake Stage at 7pm. Info here.
  • The Millennium Park Summer Film Series is showing School of Rock on Tuesday at 6:30pm. Detail here.

Whatever you choose, have fun and don’t let me EVER hear you say you don’t have anything to do!
