It’s hard to believe, but Thursday of this past week marked the 10th anniversary of the passing of legendary Chicago comedian and actor Bernie Mac.
His widow Rhonda, daughter Je’Niece and so many friends and fans honored him Thursday… there's even word that he will be getting his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame soon.
But by far, my favorite post on social media was from Je’Niece yesterday, saying that Bernie visited her in a dream and told her to tell us all to stop holding ourselves hostage to the day died. And he said that it’s fine to remember the times we laughed and smiled and all the good things, but don’t put any more energy into the day he died.
It’s so true for any of us who’ve lost someone important to us… we pour our grief into the day they left us over and over again, instead of mainly celebrating the beauty of the time we had with them.
Bernie knew how to tell us the truth, make us laugh about it and all that helped us be better people because of it. Who ya wit!
