Labor Day is holiday that most of us just see as the end of summer… but it’s not only an extra day off to barbecue and hang out with family.
It’s a celebration of our achievements as workers and our contributions to the strength and prosperity of our nation. It’s also a time to remember those who fought to give us many of the benefits we enjoy today, like weekends, safe workplaces and reasonable work days.
And it’s a great holiday for us to celebrate here because Chicago was the location of some of the biggest moments and wins of the labor movement. Read more about the Pullman strike here and other moments in the movement in this article from USA Today.
So enjoy your ‘cue today… and be thankful for the reason for the holiday.
