Last weekend, our area lost a hero and a good man… Jemel Roberson, the security guard shot and killed by police while protecting patrons as he subdued a gunman at Manny’s Blue Room.
Last night, his friends and family gathered at a memorial at Lane Tech to remember Jemel and his life as a musician who was well-known in Chicago’s gospel scene, former basketball star, aspiring police officer and also as a father, son, brother, uncle and friend.
According to TMZ, Kanye West also stepped up in a big way for Jemel’s family yesterday, donating $150,000 to help them out. They had recently set up a GoFundMe to pay for his funeral and burial.
As one of Jemel’s friends said in tribute to him yesterday… “He’s securing the gates of heaven now.”
Praying for peace and justice for his family.
