It’s a 3 day weekend for some of you… here’s a few ways to enjoy yourself in this extra wintry weather and honor Dr. King’s memory:
Don’t miss Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah at Auditorium Theatre tonight at 7:30pm and tomorrow afternoon at 3pm. It stars amazing singers Rodrick Dixon and Alfreda Burke with Alvin Waddles plus about 100 of Chicago’s best singers and musicians. They celebrate King Day every year with this amazing concert!
Pretend you’re soaking in the sun at Navy Pier as The Beach Chicago opens today! It’s a FREE immersive art installation that has turned the big ballroom at Navy Pier into the beach… complete with over a million plastic balls you can “swim” in, plus deck chairs, lifeguard stations and umbrellas. Don’t miss your day at the beach through February 3rd.
At City Winery, Melanie Fiona’s playing two sold out shows tonight – wait list is still available. And Monday evening, wrap up your King Day weekend with “Let Freedom Ring: A Musical Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” featuring some of Chicago’s best singers and musicians playing the music that became themes of the movement from Dr. King’s rallies, marches and public appearances.
Whatever you decide to do, have a great time and don't let me EVER hear you say you don't have anything to do!
