I don’t know if you remember the heatwave of 1995 that killed almost 800 people here in Chicago… but this weather we’ve been having is just like it was back then! But thankfully, Chicagoans have been heeding the warnings.
We’re under an excessive heat warning through tonight, with the heat index hovering around 105.Things will FINALLY cool off after sunset tonight… but until then, continue to be a good neighbor: check on anybody who’s ill, elderly, doesn’t have air conditioning or is otherwise at risk in this kind of heat.
The city has 6 cooling centers and they've extended the hours during this heatwave. You can also call 311 to find the one nearest to you or to request a well-being check on someone you’re concerned about in this heat if you can’t get to them yourself.
Let’s take care of each other… that’s what makes this city great!
