New Year's Traditions & Resolutions... Let's Do It Different for 2020!

Starting a new year is filled with traditions, superstitions, resolutions and feelings of hope... and I think that's even stronger for the start of this new decade. I'm a big believer in doing what's right for you in the moment/place you're in... so here are some ideas/thoughts on how to pick the right stuff to bring YOUR new year in right for YOU!

My grandmother was big on New Year traditions and superstitions... she always said what you do in the new year is how you spend the rest of the year, so we had to have a clean house, clean clothes, food in the fridge, and whatever you want to have in your life to make it easy and enjoyable. To this day, I still make sure my house is clean and I've done all my laundry before the new year comes in!

My favorite tradition was she would always say that every woman should have a man be the first person to walk over your threshold in the new year... it's supposed to bring good luck. I say it's more about what kind of energy you're inviting into your life.

My least favorite tradition she insisted on was black eyed peas on NYD… Lord, please stop. I couldn't stand them when I was a kid, really can’t stand ‘em now. She used to make me eat a little spoon of them and I wanted to die... so now, I won’t cook ‘em, I won’t eat ‘em. I'll just have to find another way to get my luck!

And resolutions… I've stopped doing them. They've never worked for me. But I do things that I can to make my life better... I make promises to myself. I also make specific goals that I can achieve in a short amount of time and breaking it into even smaller goals… that way I always feel like I'm getting things done and every little thing I do feels like a win. I just feel like the big stuff is often so hard to do and we set ourselves up to fail with big picture resolutions instead of figuring out the little steps along the way to that resolution that will make our lives better.

God bless and enjoy the beginning to your new decade… here comes 2020! Are you ready?
