The sell-off of Johnson Publishing Company, storied publishers of Jet and Ebony and long-time purveyors of Black People Magic, continues with the sale of their art collection.
It’s a sad day in black history as another big part of the company is sold off piecemeal… but you could potentially own works of art that once hung on the walls of the company’s headquarters on South Michigan Avenue. If you can afford them. ;) Some of them are expected to fetch over a hundred thousand dollars, but others are much less expensive, estimated around a thousand dollars.
And this is just the next big piece of the company to go on the auction block… the company's photo archive went for $30 million dollars back in July, the Fashion Fair clothing archive was sold in December and the Fashion Fair cosmetics line was purchased in November for $1.85 million by an investors group led by former company exec Desiree Rogers.
