2020 is a Leap Year, which means we have 366 days this year… to correct the calendar so we start next year on time, or something like that. And that means that today, February 29th is Leap Day.
Tradition (or superstition?) says that today – and today only – women can ask for a man’s hand in marriage. (Some people have been saying it’s a new trend in general these days but I think not... no judgment if that's your thing tho.) But the same tradition says that if the man says no to the proposal, he has to buy the lady he turned down 12 pairs of gloves… to hide the embarrassment of not having an engagement ring. Yoooooooooo that’s messed UP! Wha?!?!?
Perhaps related to the above tradition, today is also known as Bachelors Day.
In Scotland, it is considered bad luck to be born on Leap Day… and in Greek culture, it’s bad luck to get married in a Leap Year, especially on Leap Day.
People born on this day are called Leaplings or Leapers.
Whatever it means, I’m treating this bad boy like that hour we get when the time falls back… EXTRA!! Plus, it means that Black History Month is longer this year. #powertothepeople ;)
