Everybody’s looking for a little help these days… and while legislators in Washington are still working out the next stimulus package, the city and state are rolling out programs to help you with your rent, mortgage and property taxes this month.
The city of Chicago has set aside $33 million earmarked for grants to renters in the city… if you’re facing eviction, you can get up to 6 months assistance. Applications are open now through August 10th either online or at several community centers around the city. Homeowners can get up to $3300 in mortgage assistance grants… they’re available on a first come, first served basis and applications open online August 3rd.
The state of Illinois is also offering rental and mortgage assistance later this month… the programs are still being developed so there are no details on how much help you can get or the requirements. If you’re a renter, you can apply beginning August 10th and homeowners can apply beginning August 24th.
And you’ve probably gotten your Cook County property tax bill by now… even though the bills say they’re due August 3rd, you’ll have until October 1st to pay your taxes without penalty.
We’ll get through this together, with a little help and hope!
