Mark December 21ston your calendar to see what astronomers are calling the Christmas Star or the Star of Bethlehem.
It’s an event not seen in the skies for 800 years… during the winter solstice, two of the biggest planets in our solar system, Jupiter and Saturn, are lining up to create a bright star of wonder. It is believed that the Magi (Three Wise Men) who journeyed to find the baby Jesus were following a similar star – the same conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn with Venus in the night sky.
Anywhere in the US, you can see it by looking to the southwest sky about 45 minutes after sunset on December 21st… and you should be able to see it that whole week.
Really makes you feel closer to the Christmas story, doesn’t it?
