IWD: Women Changing Sports

Congratulations to two sisters making sports history this week!

On Friday, Maia Chaka became the first black woman to join the NFL’s roster of game officials. She comes to the NFL after an outstanding run officiating in college football for the Pac-12 and Conference USA. Maia is a teacher and HBCU grad who went to Norfolk State in Virginia. She says this accomplishment is not just for her, but “… for all women, my community and my culture.” Click below to watch her interview on the Today Show from Friday morning, right after the announcement was made!

And former WNBA star Renee Montgomery just became the first former player to become an owner and executive of a WNBA team. Even better, she will now lead the Atlanta Dream, whose players last year protested former owner and former U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler after she endorsed Donald Trump and publicly condemned Black Lives Matter. Renee said she invites to join her as the dream builds momentum.

Yes indeed sisters... do THAT!
