Risks for COVID infection are rising in the area and it's about to get more crucial to protect ourselves as thousands of people flood into Chicago for Lollapalooza next weekend… the festival usually averages 100K every day of the 4 day outdoor music event.
As it stands now, the Delta variant has already quadrupled the infection rate in the area, with DuPage county reaching warning levels of the disease.
But the mayor and governor have both expressed support for Lolla going on as planned, while health officials expressed concern even with the precautions being taken. Attendees either have to show proof of vaccination or a recent negative test but with the concentrations of so many people in one area, officials say it could bring a bigger COVID spike to the city and wherever concertgoers head after they leave here.
And with the overwhelming majority of serious cases, hospital admissions and deaths due to Delta variant being among the unvaccinated, They're all stressing the importance of getting vaccinated and protecting ourselves with masks and distancing wherever we go.
