The moratorium on evictions that started during COVID quarantine last year will be ending soon.
Landlords in Illinois can now seek to evict tenants beginning tomorrow, and enforcement of those evictions could begin as soon as September 1st.
But even if your housing is in question, assistance is still available now to help pay your rent or assist you with any legal proceedings due to eviction. For assistance with paying rent, the Illinois Housing Development Authority is still issuing federal funds and you can get information on their programs here. There is also assistance through other programs for property owners who need help with their mortgages or for their tenants.
If you think your landlord will start legal proceedings to evict you, there is free legal assistance available through Eviction Help Illinois here.
Officials say about $700 million more in federal relief is expected in the fall… here's hoping all this help will keep roofs over all our heads as our nation tries to heal and move forward from COVID.
