The federal programs that extended unemployment benefits at the beginning of the pandemic will end on Labor Day… the expiration is expected to leave about 9 million Americans without benefits and another 3 million with $300 less in their unemployment checks.
If you’re one of the Chicago area people affected by this change, Amazon may have an answer for you. The company announced this week that their two new fulfillment centers in the south suburbs will bring 6000 new jobs to the area – 3 times more than what they originally expected. The jobs will include warehouse jobs as well as tech support, HR and management positions. They’ll roll out in phases this fall with the first round of applications opening September 10th.
The centers in Markham and Matteson will open in October.
